40 Hour HAZWOPER Training

Cat Brandon of Work Safe Inc. conducted a 40 hour HAZWOPER training for Lyondell/Equistar Hazmat personnel at the US Manufacturing Training Center in Channelview, Texas. The three-day course consisted of classroom instruction and field training in response, equipment, hazardous chemicals and decontamination procedures. Tony Aguilar, HSE trainer for Lyondell/Equistar said that more plant personnel are showing an interest in participating in emergency response since the terrorist attacks on America in September. "The demand for Hazmat training is overwhelming right now as industry and municipalities step up their level of preparedness in the case of a disaster of any kind," Aguilar explained.

Work Safe Inc., a safety consulting firm with over thirty-five years in the industrial emergency response arena, helps meet that demand. Arthur "Cat" Brandon, owner of the company, started his emergency response carrier at Humble Oil and Refinery, (now ExxonMobil) in the late 60's. "We were one of the first refinery workers that were cross trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's)," says Cat. Work Safe offers emergency stand-by-rescue teams for turnarounds, shut downs and new construction as well as safety representatives for hole watch / fire watch. Establishing safety procedures and manuals as well as auditing a work site to prepare for an OSHA inspection are some of the services Work Safe offers.
